I hadn’t see her in over fifteen years. I love when people decline at first, deliberate, and then take the book. I like the freshness of her poem, and reports of our interaction.

Cairo Passages

Back to NYC
Ran into Maddy on the platform
She looks like no time has passed.
Back to Brooklyn
I was supposed to write but
didn’t
I told her I wouldn’t write
but I am
A hello to Roger
who asked me a long time ago
to write a book and I balked
so a boring poem about
what wasn’t written
Cairo streets dark now
there’s a new generation of
girls coming up
that’s hope for the future
I’d read that
