A train to High Street Station, December 14th, 2015
Aki lives in my building. We met on the A train after a night of holiday parties. This was our first real interaction, but I knew from our brief elevator encounters, that she has an ironic sensibility. I hoped she’d agree to write a poem. Very often, any prior relationship gives the potential poet the opportunity to say no. Aki agreed gracefully, even though she hadn’t ever written a poem. She has a spark – one that she reveals with the least amount of words. She works in banking.
Every dog has its day.
In Japanese, it means
There are so many happenstances
in your life.
I just enjoy and appreciate
my well be-ings.
