my grandmother's yard_____

The MS 8 series of poems by 6th graders: What is stored in the mind of a child and how will we ever know? Poetry! For Noli it was a Christmas break visit to her mother’s dilapidated childhood home. It makes sense to me that such a powerful memory about lineage and the passing of time, would be stored and released on the New York City subway. Amazing poem Noli!

My Grandmother’s Yard

in the place where
my mother grew
there was a beautiful house
and a porch that my Grandfather
built with the gravestone in the
back where they buried a pet
and when this house grew
old she vanished and grass
was planted in my Grandmothers
yard and all their memories
are still their

oh how I long to put
flowers in my
Grandmothers yard
